Good Saturday morning!
As I am sitting here drinking my coffee and seeing the patches of snow outside, I can’t help but remember our trip to Tybee Island Georgia this past Summer. As many of you know, we love the Wildwood Beach area, and go each year in June.
So when we decided to drive to Florida this past Summer, we knew we wanted to stop and see a Southern beach. Savannah was a natural stopping place for us, and Tybee Island was a mere 25 minutes from there, so we made it our must-see beach stop.
Before I talk about experiencing the beauty of Tybee Island, I need to talk about the hotel we stopped in overnight. We stayed at the Courtyard Savannah Downtown/Historic District. I wish we had more time to spend in Savannah, but our time was limited. What time we did spend at the hotel was nice. We received a complimentary breakfast for sharing about our stay, and I will say, it was the absolute BEST hotel breakfast.
Once we were fueled up from breakfast, and packed back up in the, we headed out to Tybee Island for our beach adventure. I had programmed everything into our GPS before we left home, so we just had to push a button and go! It was a gorgeous, scenic drive!
I am glad that I did research before we visited, because I was able to find out about parking at Tybee Island. I came prepared with change for the parking meters, and knew what to do. Once we reached our parking area, it was a short trip to the beach. I love the sign we encountered first.
One thing I need to warn you about was there was a lot of sand fleas before you got to the water. I should have left my sneakers on until then, and I got a few bites. I know for the future, though, and it didn’t stop me from falling in love with the island.
Experiencing the beauty of Tybee Island Georgia:
We spent most of the trip before now visiting colleges for my oldest son. So this stop at Tybee Island Georgia was geared towards our youngest son. He is our beach bum, and spends almost every morning at the beach looking for seashells. The Oriental Trading Company has some great coupons that can help get your beachcombing bag ready to go for a Summer trip!
I have to tell you there is absolutely nothing as calming as walking barefoot while looking for seashells. We did meet a few new friends along the way, as well.
We then took some time and walked down to the pier. Saw a gentleman fishing, talked to a few folks, and talked excitedly about the fact that we were 3 hours from Orlando!
We still talk about how much we loved relaxing on the pier. It was already starting to get warm, so we were glad for the short time of rest in the shade. I think next time we will make sure to build extra time in the day to explore the island further.
I thought this was adorable.
So after that, we walked back to the car to get ready for our next stop: Universal Studios Orlando! I do know that I thoroughly enjoyed our time on Tybee Island, and am thrilled that we made the decision to stop here.
