It is so hard to believe that we are back from our long end of Summer road trip. I haven’t really had time to share about it because school started for the kids, work has been busy, and we have 2 new furry family members. So now that I have a few moments, I want to talk about our stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint.
This trip was a year’s worth of planning that was truly an amazing experience. As many of you know, my son is a senior in high school and we are working on finding the right college for him. So, with our map in hand, we started planning out our trip.
We decided to combine the college trip with a trip to Universal Studios and Disney World. I will definitely have more to share on that in a future post. But for now, back to our stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint. Two of the stops on our college visit included Duke University and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. So a stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint was a perfect place halfway between each of these schools.
On our way here, we had stopped at the University of Maryland for a college visit. So we had broken up our first day of driving into manageable bites. Having never driven this far South before, it was kind of overwhelming. But, as soon as we pulled into the parking lot, you could literally feel the Southern hospitality oozing out of the building.
For one, we were greeted to this:
I just wanted to curl up on that gazebo and take it all in. But, we had to get checked in and settled into our room. Thanks to the Marriott app on my phone, I had checked into our hotel even before we left home Monday morning. I was a little skeptical at first, but by the end of the trip, this app had me hooked.
The Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint:
As soon as we walked into the hotel lobby, we were greeted by the staff with a warm smile and general interest in our family. As for me, I was busy checking out the beauty of the hotel lobby area.
It took less than 2 minutes to get our room key, so we headed up. I always ask for a high floor room and extra towels. The hotel definitely honored my room floor request, but the towels were the only issue(and this was at every Marriott hotel we stayed at during our trip). We never received enough towels for the number of people in our room. And no extra towels. It was more of an inconvenience than a problem, because when I called the front desk, they were promptly brought up.
But in any case, I love how the hotel was set up. From the amazing lounge area:
to the atrium-style room set up:
It was truly a beautiful place to stay. Before I talk any more about the physical aspects of the hotel, I have to share about the staff. Everyone there is so nice and welcoming. From the front desk to the housekeeping staff to the breakfast bar area, the hospitality was unmatched. This goes for any of the places we stayed at during our trip. My husband and sons both agreed that we needed more people up North like the staff members here.
The rooms were a nice size, and very well kept. As you can see, it didn’t take us long to make ourselves right at home.
There is also a really nice work area:
The only negative to the room space is there is not enough drawer space for a family of four and there was no fan in the bathroom. When you are traveling with 3 males, a fan is definitely something that should be in every bathroom in every hotel.
The only other damper to our stay was this:
My youngest loves to swim, so he was looking forward to having some time to relax in the pool. Again, just a minor inconvenience to our family.
As with other Fairfield Inn and Suites that we have stayed at, they have a nice sized exercise room and a Corner Market. We did not have a chance to utilize either of those areas, but it is nice to know they are there.
Free parking and a free hot breakfast rounded out our stay.
So I have to say, the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint was a great place to stay for our road trip. The price was incredibly reasonable for everything they offered to the hotel guests. So if you are ever in the area, make sure you stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint. You won’t regret it!
