Can you hear it? The subtle sounds of people wishing it was Spring? Yeah, I am one of those people clamoring for warm weather. My favorite part of Spring is baseball, as many of you already know. Some kids are gearing up to start their Spring seasons, as long as the weather cooperates. In the meantime, if your baseball-loving son is stuck inside, here are some great baseball books that will get him through the waiting.
One of the most common things I hear from my customers is that my son hates to read. So then I start asking them what their child likes, and one of the most common answers is: baseball. So to make things easier, I started an ongoing list for parents & kids to check out.
Baseball Books For Beginning Readers:
- Babe Ruth Saves Baseball
- Baseball’s Best
- Baseball Camp On The Planet Eyeballs
- Flat Stanley at Bat
- The Berenstein Bears Play Ball
- Here Comes The Strikeout
Those are great selections for those that are just starting to read independently. They make great reads for before bed, so parents, grab one and snuggle while you read to your kiddos.
Baseball Books In Chapter Book Series:
There are more books in the Ballpark Mysteries series than what I have shared here, so if your child likes them, there is plenty more to read. Although they are numbered, they do not need to be read in order.
Young Reader Baseball Books:
- Jackie & Me
- Little League Baseball World Series
- Zombie Baseball Beatdown
- The Contract
- Little League Perfect Game
Matt Christopher and Tim Green both have multiple baseball books in each of their series. Tim Green is on a slightly higher level than Matt Christopher, so they are more appropriate for a strong reader.
Non-Fiction Baseball Books:
- Jackie Robinson
- The Everything Kids’ Baseball Book
- The Greatest Baseball Records
- 42: The Jackie Robinson Story
These are just a few of the great baseball books out there for kids to read. I know a lot of my titles are geared towards reluctant readers, but any baseball fan will enjoy reading them.
What baseball books will you get for your little slugger?
