I admit it, when I am in the process of getting ready for vacation, the last thing on my mind is menu planning. I am too busy worrying about getting the laundry done or making sure I have everything I need. Then you toss working the evening shift 2 out 3 nights this week, and menu planning is definitely the last thing you are thinking about.
But in the excitement of our impending trip, I am realizing that letting menu planning slide is probably not a great idea. When we are on vacation, we do absolutely no cooking. So that means we need money to pay for our meals. So, by not having a menu plan this week, that is money we are wasting on eating out. That could take away from some of our fun while on vacation. Not cool.
Menu Planning Before Vacation
So, while the week is still sort of young, I am coming up with a menu plan that will see us through the rest of the week. At least I hope so!
Tuesday: I work 3-11, so the guys will probably have breakfast burritos.
Wednesday: Spaghetti! I work 10-6, so I plan to make the sauce before I leave and put it in the crockpot on warm while I am at work. Youngest is a spaghetti master, so he will make the noodles when my hubby calls to say he is on his way home from work.
Thursday: We have haircuts, and that always means cheese dogs and chocolate milk from Yocco’s.
Friday: I am thinking Belgium Waffles with sausage.
Saturday: Clean out the fridge hodge-podge. Since we leave for vacation the next day, I want to use up as much as we can. Our garbage day isn’t till next Wednesday so the less smelly stuff in the cans, the better.
When I think about it now, menu planning during the week before vacation should be a priority not an after thought. It really will save you a lot of time and money which you can use while you are on your favorite vacation!
