School is almost out, and summer is set to begin. For most families, this time of year means vacation is at hand. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming to plan and pack for vacation. I wanted to share with you a few tips and tools to makes sure you have no stress vacation preparation.
No Stress Vacation Preparation
I know that a few years ago, my vacation preparation consisted of making many lists on pen and paper. And you know what? 9 chances out of 10, I would misplace them and feel even more stressed. So I would make another set of lists, and ended up losing those too. Not cool at all.
So last year I started something new. I have a Nook HD+ that has become my most valuable organization tool. It has my calendar, and thanks to OutOfMilk, all of my packing lists. What a difference it has made with two trips. No lost lists, no panicking. Pretty awesome! So I wanted to share a few tips that can help with no stress vacation preparation.
My favorite thing about lists is that you can check them off, which is why, at the time, I loved the pen and paper lists. It was quite satisfying to cross things off that list. Trouble is, there were times I was on break for work or visiting family, and I would remember something. And since it was on paper list, which is at home, chances are I would forget what it was until I could get to the list.
Having the OutOfMilk app really changed things because I always had my lists with me. With a few quick taps, the item was added without delay. If you have a smart phone, you can get the app on there as well. Do the paid one, it is worth the $2.99 not to have the ads, which are distracting sometimes.
So the first list I made was a general list:
As you can see, I already arranged for boarding for the dog, so now it is crossed off. Totally love that!
Next I have a list for every type of major task:
This is my favorite because you can do one list at a time. It will be less overwhelming if you have little chunks to deal with, instead one incredibly huge list.
And then I have a list of items for each specific section. This is for all things needed for our electronics:
We take tons of cords, phones, tablets, etc. So this is nice to use the day of departure to make sure everyone has what they need. That way, there is no crying or pouting if a cord is forgotten. This is where I have the boys and hubby help. As soon as they pack their cord, they cross it off the list. When the entire list is crossed off, I then zip up the bag and it is ready to go.
So these are a few things you can do ahead of time to make sure you have no stress vacation preparation. You get a sense of accomplishment when you cross things off, and you can relax knowing you have everything you need.
