Snow Day Essentials

I have been reading all over cyber-land how much people enjoy snow and winter. I am not in that group, in fact I really despise it! But since I can’t control Mother Nature(or is it the Snow Miser?), I can either keep complaining about it or I can embrace it.

Not embracing it…….

But I do have to admit, when I have nowhere to go, it is kind of nice. Especially since hubby can now work from home on a snow day(I am so thrilled that I don’t have to fight with him about this anymore), so we can relax and cuddle on the couch.(Well, if I get called off for today. Keeping my fingers crossed!!) The boys were called off last night already, so they are planning a video game marathon. Me, as long as we have power, I have a date with the washing machine….and the sofa!

So here are some of our snow day essentials:

snow day essentials

  • Hot chocolate fixings. This includes Quik, Redi-Whip(Extra-Creamy, of course!!!), vanilla extract, and some coffee creamer. Simple ingredients with a fantastic result. There is no set recipe for it, other than the heaping amounts of chocolate powder. I have tried to make it with the real cocoa, but it just doesn’t have the right taste for me. Oh, and massive amounts of whipped cream!! Adding a little coffee creamer adds a bit of flavor, and cools it just enough to drink immediately.
  • Lots of cozy blankets. Hubby and I have a comforter that we call “Blankie”. We have had this thing for as long as we have been married, and it is not the prettiest thing out there. But it keeps us warm. Very warm. I don’t know what we would do if we couldn’t use it anymore. Cry I suppose.
  • A good movie. We have some new ones that we got for Christmas. Today is the perfect day to break one out, and spend time together watching it. The hardest thing will be deciding which one to watch.
  • Fuzzy slipper socks. Mostly for me, the guys are too “manly”. They wear there regular old slippers. It is also a great excuse to wear yoga pants and a sweatshirt, and not feel guilty about it.

So these are just some of our snow day essentials. Do you have anything to add? What are your snow day essentials?

Be sure to leave a comment, maybe I can get some ideas for the next snow day.

Which I will hate. A lot.

  1. I love your blog Jen! I’m with you… winter is awful. I think I would add a great book, enough supplies to make warm chocolate chip cookies and a candle that smells wonderful.

  3. Ahhh as we’re sitting here in the snow today, lights just flickered, 20 degrees outside — the chill is on. Love your list I would add a nice cozy pair of sweat pants as we have friends coming over tonight and I just got done asking her to come in her sweats as I was too cozy to change :) Thanks for sharing!

  5. Hi! I found you on the SITSgirls Saturday Sharefest. My area is expecting 8-14 inches of snow tomorrow. As someone like you who also despises snow with every fiber of my being, I’m not looking forward to it! One thing I would have on my snow day list is a good book or a fun video game.
