Sunshine Is Good For The Soul

When I look at the calendar, it’s hard to believe that the end of February is almost upon us.  It just seemed like the new year began, and here we are almost 2 full months into it.  Well, you will get no complaints from this blogger.  I thrive on sunshine, long nights, warm breezes, and open windows.  During the winter, I mark the passing of time by when it gets dark.  Darkness means a few good things, like Big Daddy J on his way home from work or evening television with the family.  But I can’t deny it, the fact that it is no longer pitch black at 5pm makes me want to dance and sing(don’t worry, I will spare you the torture).

Some of things I am looking forward to now that the sunshine is shining longer:

  1. Spring baseball
  2. Walks in the evening with the hubby and children
  3. Having the windows open so a breeze blows through the house
  4. Seeing the kids run around outside having fun
  5. Lighter meals and grilling
  6. Barbeques with the baseball team parents

In the past few days, I have gotten more things accomplished than I have all winter.  I know that some believe that seasonal affect disorder, or SAD, is not a true medical condition.  I am not sure that I believe that.  I also have hypothyroidism, and lack of sunlight tends to make my symptoms more extreme.  I am noticing that as the days grow longer, I am much more content.  The winter sluggishness and depression is lessening, the attitude is improving, and my energy is increasing.

I know that there will still be days where snow will fall, sleet will be present, and the skies will be gray.  But it is so nice to know that there is an end in sight.  So tell me, What Do You Enjoy Most About Longer Evenings?

It’s nice just to get some of those layers of clothing off, and not having to remember hat and gloves for me and the little one every time we go out. There’s also spring flowers, Mother’s Day and Easter to look forward to.

Call me crazy, but I love winter and long nights and I’m not looking forward to spring and summer. I’m also one of those people who enjoy a gloomy, rainy day. I guess maybe it’s because I LOVE being inside with my family — no distractions. No running around. No yardwork (I detest yardwork)….

Maybe there’s something wrong with me because I know that I’m truly out of the ordinary!

I think all season have its ups and downs. I live in a bug prominent place. So I tend to like the winter a little more. The bugs are hiding or dead. But when spring comes all the bugs love to make nests in my fire place with is a direct outlet to outside. Last spring every morning I woke up I killed three or more spiders before I could even start my coffee. Some of them big and scary looking, and this year I have a baby that will be crawling soon and while I love the longer days and the warm sunshine and being able to take my kids outside to play, I hate that aspect of it.

I can completely agree with this and associate with it. It has done nothing but rain here lately – it even snowed on the first day of spring. I’m tired of wearing closed toed shoes and socks. Even if we had sun and it was cold – I could deal with that. I look forward to when I can wear sandals and no sweaters (or coats). Thank you for this post it helps with see I’m not the only person praying for Sun :-D

Ohh hard to say! We’re just coming into winter here in Australia! (and yes it does get cold lol) I actually really love winter just because Im addicted to scarves (have drawers full!) and it means I can wear them hehe I will be changing my tune mid winter when we’ll all be praying for a warm day though lol Hmmm longer days to mean means BBQ dinners, twilight games of cricket and frisbee in the park and when I’m home on the coast, it means all of the above but at the beach!
