Snow Day Essentials

I have been reading all over cyber-land how much people enjoy snow and winter. I am not in that group, in fact I really despise it! But since I can't control Mother Nature(or is it the Snow Miser?), I can either keep complaining about it or I can embrace it. Not embracing it....... But I do have to admit, when I have nowhere to go, it is kind of nice. Especially since hubby can now work from home on a snow day(I am so thrilled that I don't have to fight with him about this anymore), so we can relax and cuddle on the couch.(Well, if I get called off for today. Keeping my fingers crossed!!) The boys were called off last night already, so … [Read more...]

The Night Before Christmas Eve

It is really hard to believe it is the night before Christmas Eve. I am still trying to wrap my head around the loss of a dear family friend, so the thought of prepping for all the Christmas activities seems almost wrong. But, life tends to keep moving forward, even when you think it shouldn't. So I thought I'd share with you our night before Christmas Eve. By the time you read this post, I will already have been at work for an hour. While getting up early the night after an Eagles game is hard enough, having to get up to go to work after an Eagles game is worse!  But, the bright side is that I am home to spend the rest of the evening with … [Read more...]

Simple Woman’s Daybook: A Snowy Sunday

Have you ever thought about being a simple woman or writing a daybook? The Simple Woman's daybook is one of my favorite blog memes to do. I always get lots of comments, visits, and encouragement when I write it. My daybook always combines little parts of my everyday life. Sometimes I feel like my life takes on such a hectic pace. Blogging about my week helps me to see what my week is like, and maybe figure out how to slow things down a bit. So I hope that you enjoy this post. And join in with the Simple Woman's daybook as well. I keep trying to make it simple. But sometimes I make things more complicated. Trying counts, right? Right? … [Read more...]

Thanksgiving Traditions: Thankful For The Family

Thanksgiving traditions are one of my favorite things. It gives me something to look forward to it each year. When I used to work as a nurse, there were many Thanksgivings that I spent away from my family. While I loved taking care of my patients, I really wanted to be at home celebrating our Thanksgiving traditions with my family. They are not elaborate or expensive, but they really mean a lot. My husband is on vacation during Thanksgiving week, so I get a chance to spend more time with him, and he actually gets to relax...a bit. He uses a lot of his time off at home to catch up on some of his paperwork because people aren't … [Read more...]

Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: A Book Review

I had the pleasure and the opportunity to review a book from the series Travels with Gannon and Wyatt. As you have read before, I enjoy doing book reviews of books from all genres and written for all ages. I was excited to be part of this opportunity because I could share this exciting opportunity with my children. It was fun to have my 12-year old read the book and share his opinion of the story. And, it gave us time to talk and compare notes. When we received the books, I gave my son the opportunity to pick which book he wanted us to read and review. After careful consideration, he decided we should read Travels With Gannon and Wyatt: … [Read more...]

5 Movies That Are On My Christmas List

Now that November is here, I can no longer ignore the fact that Christmas preparations must be started. Lists need to be made, decorations need to be found, and the Christmas music playlist must be redone.  I have to admit, Christmas just isn't the holiday that it used to be. It is all about what you can spend, who can decorate first, or what is the hottest toy out there. I can either be bitter about it, or I can go with the flow and have some fun with it. For the sake of not being a Grinch, I decided to have some fun with it. While I don't have a huge list of things that I want, there are quite a few movies on my list. I thought I would … [Read more...]

Menu Plan Monday: Week of October 13th

There is only phrase containing three words that strikes absolute fear in my heart.  And it happens again each week.  What is it, you ask?  I bet you know, because you have probably been asked it every week too.  Ready for it? What's for dinner?  Huh, that's it?  Bet you were probably thinking of all kinds of scary phrases in your head, right?  Nope, that's it.  What's for dinner.  Three words that can erase my brain completely, and reduce me to tears.  Well, maybe it is not that dramatic, but still, you get the point.  We have been so busy with baseball that I haven't had time to sit down and plan a weekly menu, or even cook that much. … [Read more...]

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Remember that song by Lionel Richie? How he is depressed about a breakup? Well, this post is definitely not about that.  I just liked that phrase as my blog post title.  Why, you say?  Well, first of all,  it is Sunday morning right now.  Okay, totally lame, but I thought it was cute.  And, as I have mentioned before, I am not a comedian. The real purpose of this post is to share why Sunday is such a nice time for our family.  I could state the obvious that we are all home together.  I could say it is because we go to church.  I could even say that it is for the great meal that my mother in law makes for us each Sunday. That would be mostly … [Read more...]

5 Tips To Make Packing For Vacation A Snap

Packing for vacation doesn't have to be a scary experience.  In fact, with our weather turning slightly cooler, I am considering a quick trip to someplace warm(but not humid) and sunny.  Well, not really.  I am enjoying my time at home just relaxing.  As I page through some of my older blog posts, I am surprisingly nostalgic about our vacations earlier this summer.  We went to visit our favorite vacation spot in Wildwood, NJ during June.  At the end of July, we made a repeat visit to Wisconsin to spend time with friends.  Both trips involved a lot of packing, along with some thought and planning.  I am going to share 5 simple tips to make … [Read more...]

What I Learned This Week: Baseball Edition

Baseball, it's all about the baseball games. Youth baseball, professional baseball, you name and we love it! What I Learned This Week has always been a favorite blog meme. Reading some of Julie's entries has always brought a smile to my face. Each week I think that there isn't anything I could have possibly learned that is worth blogging about. Or sometimes it seems like I learn the same stuff over and over and over again. Sometimes I feel like I am doing nothing but complaining, and who wants to read that, right? But then I think, maybe someone out there understands or is going through the same thing. So, without further discussion, here is … [Read more...]
