What I Learned This Week ~Exercise Is For The Birds

What I Learned This Week On Making Our Life Matter
What I learned this week has always been a favorite blog meme.  Reading some of Julie’s entries has always brought a smile to my face.  Last week she discussed all the things she learned about exercising and water consumption.  She has some really great things to say about it.  Right now I am trying to work on some healthy lifestyle changes, but that is not going to well.  I have been so resistant to the whole exercise thing, until hubby made me get off my rear and workout with him.  So, without further discussion, here is what I learned this week:
  • I am addicted to Turkey Hill Iced Tea.  Just the regular kind.  But it is like crack to me.  I can stop drinking it for a while, but if I get so much as a whiff of it, I fall off the wagon and grab the gallon jug.
  • I hate drinking water.  I mean I despise it.  I know that I need to drink more, I know that it is good for me, but I can’t do it.  I think part of the reason is that our tap water tastes like a dead sponge.  We don’t have a water softener, so you can really taste the gunk in it.  I try to buy spring water, but it is such a pain in the rear(and I save the spring water to use in my beloved Keurig).  One of the things that I know I should invest in is a Brita pitcher or similar water strainer.  It’s on my to do list, somewhere in the middle.
  • Exercising is a necessary evil.  Hubby and I are doing P90X Lean together.  I hate exercising because I hate sweating.  But you know what?  Exercising with hubby has made it more bearable.  We get to spend time with each other, and are doing something healthy.  So it is a win-win situation.  Plus it has other benefits as well, including physical, emotional, and even spiritual. As Tony Horton says, “Do Your Best, Forget The Rest.”  Okay, if you say so!
  • Dressing for the occasion makes exercising a little more bearable.  This includes some high quality sneakers, athletic tops that whisk away the sweat, and a compression bra.  I have somewhat large “girls” and the cardio workouts really bounce them around.  Once I got a good compression bra, the exercise became less painful, as I wasn’t distracted by the movement.
  • I can’t do Yoga.  Period.  I know it’s supposed to be relaxing, and it really is good exercise, but it is an exercise in futility for me.  Exercise is supposed to relax you in body and mind, but is it worth it if you end up angry?  Nope, not in my book.  So I just skip the YogaX workout, and add another cardio.

I learned a few things along the way this week, some new, some the same old same old. How about you? Join in the fun to see what others are doing and to make new blog friends. For more WILTW, please visit Julie at From Inmates to Playdates!

  1. I, too, despise water. And if Turkey Hill Ice Tea was sold here, I would be the same way. We do have Turkey Hill ice cream and we JUST got Tasty Cakes. (I’m from Philly relocated to the south)….

But how I love going home and getting the “good stuff”

I’m getting on the wagon just as soon as we get back from the cruise. (Because really? I paid ALOT of money for that food. I’m going to enjoy it.)

So glad to meet you! Thanks for stopping my my little place in cyber space! Hope to see more of you around! :)

  2. I’m proud of you for getting off the couch and joining your husband. It is a win-win situation. It has been my experience that changing too many things all at once doesn’t work. I encourage you to stick with the exercise regime and make small changes as you go. Congratulations!

  3. We are trying the water kick as well and I hate it. I just would rather a glass of tea. I just wish you could still get your to do list done while exercising. I have to work out first thing in the morning or I will push off until it is time to go to bed.

  4. Trying out your White chili recipe, which by the way is making the whole house smell sooo good, which of course makes me want to overeat, thereby totally understanding this post! Ya know, it didn’t show too much in the chili post, but JU SO FONII!!! Glad to have found you and hope you swing by my place sometime for a quick dance. BB2U

  5. I don’t know if it makes a difference, but our water comes from a hand dug shallow well with a pitcher pump. So it doesn’t come through any pipes except the one that is in the well. We drink a lot of water around here. I can’t imagine not liking it. But I don’t like it at other people’s houses. The other thing I love to drink is seltzer, unflavored or sweetened. It is so refreshing!

  6. I am a yoga LOVER and I do NOT like the YogaX workout. I’ve talked to other people who hated yoga when they did it with P90X, but loved it otherwise. So if you decide to try it again, go with a different instructor or try a class at a studio. :) I think you’ll find it to be much nicer.

(Also, yoga is not necessarily supposed to be relaxing… it can be vigorous as well. Depends on the type you do.)

  7. I hated it too, and then I saw the changes that were happening in my body. Fast forward to now and I’m a Beach Body Coach and making a living while losing weight. It’s a win win :)

I like water, when I remember. That’s my downfall. Even today I have only had 4 glasses. Okay, off to the kitchen I go. lol
