Did you ever wonder what Mom needs for a new baseball season? It may seem overwhelming, but with a little planning, a new baseball season can be fun, not stressful.
What Mom needs for a new baseball season
Here are a few important things you should make sure you have:
- Contact information for the head coach and any assistant coaches. Hopefully your coach gives you this information on the very first day of practice. If he doesn’t, make sure you
hunttrack him down to get it. Get a home phone, cell phone, and email address. That way if you have questions or get lost on the way to a game, you can get in touch with him.
- Games schedule and field directions. Knowing when and where you are going is very important. After all, if you are late to a game, the team may be forced to forfeit, depending on what level you are playing at. Not fun for the child in question. Google the directions well before the day of the game. Make sure the address is accurate. Print out turn-by-turn directions. And, if you can, take a dry run several days before the game. You will be glad you did!
- An inventory of needed equipment. Last fall, I wrote a post about what to do when the season ends. Works just as well for the Spring. Have your child try on uniform pants a couple of weeks before the season starts. If they need a larger size, the sooner you can get it, the better. Pants get grabbed quick, so get them while you can. Extra socks, belts, and, uh, athletic supporters should be on your list too. Check with the coach about what drop your son needs on his bat. Yeah, fun, eh?
- An updated first aid kit. Chances are, you will need it on the very first day of practice. Here is some suggestions for what to have in your first aid kit. Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray. Your body will thank you for it.
- An emergency clothing bag. For your kid, you should have an extra pair of uniform pants, a pair of socks, long-sleeved UnderArmour type shirt, short-sleeved undershirt. If you want to be really cool, have a pair of slides they can change into so their cleats don’t mess up your car. For you: long pants, short pants, long and short-sleeved shirts, at least 2 sweatshirts, extra socks, 3 pairs of shoes, etc. I am not kidding!
- Two umbrellas. One large golf-type umbrella and one portable one(If you have more than 1 non-playing child, make sure you have one for each of them).
- Old towels or cloths. Can be used to wipe down bleachers or for killing bees.
- Stadium chair. For those fields that don’t have bleachers. Just make sure your chair is in good working condition. Ask me why.
- Snacks. There are some fields out there that do not have snack bars. Unless you have already been there, chances are you won’t find it out until you are already there. Keep a few granola bars handy if that is the case, it will at least satisfy your hunger until you can get some real food.
These are just a few things you may need. But having these basics will have you ready to go when the season starts, and you can add more as you see fit. So I hope you now know what Mom needs for a new baseball season! And you thought you just needed to get your player ready!
