Easy Cheesy Barbecue Burger Bake

Warmer weather is coming up, and most people want to spend time outside. Cut down time in the kitchen by preparing this easy cheesy barbecue burger bake. Easy to make, tasty, and perfect for a meal when you are on the go!

Casserole recipes have always been my favorite to make. I am not a skilled chef, and I get frustrated when something has complicated ingredients and a long list of instructions. Can you relate to that? So I am so happy to share this recipe with you.

Another bonus of this recipe is that it is the perfect recipe to take to a family gathering, a home tailgate party, or to a work or school picnic. Ok, enough talk, let’s get to the recipe.

Cheesy Barbecue Burger Bake Ingredients

  • 1 package pasta noodles(you can use any you like, but I don’t recommend elbow macaroni)
  • 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef(see substitution tip below)
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green peppers
  • 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • shredded cheese
  • sprinkle of parmesan cheese(optional)

How To Prepare This Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Brown meat in skillet, and drain off excess fat.
  3. Add peppers and onions, and stir until tender.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, and water.
  5. Simmer mixture for 20 minutes.
  6. While the meat is simmering, cook noodles as directed.  I always cook the noodles about a minute less than I would normally.
  7. In your casserole dish, layer meat mixture, alternating with the shredded cheese. Top layer with more cheese. I usually add a sprinkle or two of parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Bake casserole for 20 minutes (covered if you just want melted cheese, uncovered if you like your cheese toasted).

Isn’t it great that it doesn’t take long to make this recipe? This has always been one of my favorite meals to make when my son played baseball.

Another wonderful bonus is this meal freezes well, so you can double or triple the ingredients to feed your family & have some leftover to freeze for another day.

For the best freezing results, use Rubbermaid containers. Fill each one, expel the air, and stack neatly in your freezer. Remember to allow the barbecue burger bake to cool completely before preparing it for the freezer.
