My oldest son plays baseball. In fact, he has been playing since he was 5 years old. And, unfortunately, has had his share of injuries. Most were, thank goodness, minor in nature. Truth be told, I think his injuries were more traumatic for me than for him. He would bounce right back and keep on playing. Me, I just got a ton more of grey hair from it!
His injuries have varied. From a few banged up fingers, to a few whacks in the back that were severe enough to send him to an emergency center. It really isn’t easy on Mom to see their child laid up and in pain.
Not a fun thing for a parent, especially a Mom. There has also been a time where I have been working and I received a phone call from my husband that my son had been hit in his hand, and may have fractured or broken it. Thankfully that was not the case, and he had just a few bruises.
But what would we have done if he was more serious and our local hospital couldn’t treat him? Well, thankfully there is The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We live within a 45 minute drive, so if my son had needed more extensive treatment, it was well within reach.
Did you know that The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is is one of the top-ranked children’s hospitals in the United States (by U.S. News and World Report) and is the highest ranked children’s hospital in the region? As a former registered nurse, I am well aware of what a great services the CHOP Care Network can provide for your child.
Most kids are involved in one or more after school activities, and there is a high probability that they will be hurt at some point in their sports career. There are more than 1000 CHOP doctors throughout the region, but they have a singular mission – keep the well child healthy, and help the sick child get better. For big things, little things, and everything in between, CHOP will be able to care for your child.
It seems so long ago that he was this little man who started his baseball career. And we have been through lots of great times, and made some great friends. There have been bumps and bruises, and laughter and tears. It is very comforting to parents that there is a place like CHOP to treat these bumps and bruises or something more severe.
Here is some more information about CHOP services:
- The CHOP Care Network has more than 50 locations
- There are CHOP Specialty and Surgery Centers located in convenient locations, like Brandywine PA
- There are After-Hours locations, as well
- CHOP has Home Care services too! From recovering from a short-term illness or a chronic health problem, CHOP has you covered.
So this is just a small example of the services that CHOP provides to your children. I know that if either of my sons has a serious illness, CHOP will be the choice for me to help them get better.
