During our travels to Wisconsin, eating at new places was always something we looked forward to. Since most of the restaurants are nowhere near our part of the United States, we wanted to make sure that we got to the most interesting. At the top of the list was Moosejaw Pizza & Dells Brewing Co in the Wisconsin Dells. One of the reasons this eatery was so appealing to us is that my husband’s fantasy hockey league team is named after Moosejaw. So we thought it was very appropriate to take the time to drive up and visit Moosejaw.
One of the first things we enjoyed was the sign out front. We thought it was quaint and totally appropriate. After all, Moose Jaw is in Canada, where many moose can be found. The rustic decor was very nice as well as it made for a very relaxing atmosphere.
The kids were having a blast looking around at all the animal heads mounted on the wall. Even though they aren’t young, it was still a great way to keep them occupied while we waited for our order. I have to mention that the service at Moosejaw was excellent. The wait to get seated was minimal(although we did go at a non-busy time), and the waitress was introducing herself moments after we were seated. Their menu was almost overwhelming because they have such a variety of food. When we went back in 2012, I had the fish fry, which was one of the best I have ever had. The portion was huge, and the fish was cooked just right. My husband had the elk burger, which is found surprisingly tasty. He is not a big fan of game meats, but he wanted to try something new. He was definitely not disappointed. When we returned in 2013, I ended up getting the fish fry again, while hubby had the Moosejaw burger. Both were tasty, and worth waiting for.
Speaking of the name Moosejaw Pizza & Dells brewing, I have to take a moment and discuss the pizza. My boys shared a pizza when we were at the restaurant. Of course, I had to take a few bites, just to see. Let me tell you, the crust was beyond fantastic. It was soft and very flavorful, and complimented the meat and cheeses on the pizza. The pizza is another item on the menu that every customer should try.
And, I can’t finish this blog post without mentioning the brewing part of Moosejaw. After all, what goes better with pizza than beer?
I have never tried microbrewery beer, so this was a new experience for me. I only had a few sips because I was driving, but the couple I had were good. The Golden Lager was flavorful and light, just like the description on the menu. My husband also tried the Rustic Red, which he said was just as tasty.
Moosejaw Pizza & Dells Brewing Co. is a great place to eat for the whole family. Where we were staying in Wisconsin was 40 minutes away from Moosejaw, and it was worth the drive. So much so that we made a repeat visit in 2013. I think you will enjoy it as much as we did.
