The National Mustard Museum is one of the fun places we got to see when we were visiting friends in Wisconsin last year. When I first heard about it, I wasn’t too sure how it would be. After all, my son is a ketchup maniac! Our friends were excited about showing us around, so we took a chance and went along with it. It was great. The National Mustard Museum is a great place to take your family. There is a lot to see, and taste too.
One of the first things that you notice when you walk into the National Mustard Museum is the rows and rows of mustard. I never knew there were so many varieties of mustard available. After all, my mustard knowledge is limited to Heinz.
They have 2 full shelves of nothing but beer flavored mustard. The main thing that makes The National Mustard Museum unique is you can try any of the flavors before you buy. There is a complete tasting bar that has spoons, or, if you prefer, pretzel sticks. I bet you can figure out what my boys used. On this level, they also have cute souvenirs to satisfy any mustard-loving visitor.
On the lower level, they have a fantastic museum of different mustard bottles. They even have a Mustard-piece theater. The kids had a blast looking at the giant stuffed mustard bottle, and had to spend 10 minutes trying to beat it up. The adults, of course, showed much more restraint, and just looked around without touching.
As you can see, we left the museum with several different varieties of mustard. Because of the taste testing, we knew exactly what we were getting, so there were no surprises and none wasted. So if you are looking for something fun to do while in Wisconsin, definitely check out the National Mustard Museum. After all, Wisconsin is famous for their cheese, and now you can get great mustard to go with it. For more about our trip to Wisconsin, check out these great posts:
