Ok readers! Raise your hand if your kids are playing Pokémon GO? *raising hand*.
Now, raise your hand if YOU are playing Pokémon GO *raising hand again*
Yes, I have gotten swept up in the Pokémon GO craze. Now, before you judge me, hear me out. Yes I am well over 40 and playing video games on my smartphone. I admit that I LOVE Pokémon. But there are several reasons for that:
- I grew up on Pokémon.
- My kids play with Pokémon cards.
- I freely admit to watching the Pokémon TV show.
And you know what? I am not ashamed at all! Pokémon GO has done so much for our family, and I want to share why.
So, what does Pokémon GO have to do with fitness? Well, here is a very simple thing: in the past 5 days, I have walked 44,987 steps, burned 1539.8 calories, walked 19.88 miles, and….drum roll please: lost 5 pounds. This is the same lady that thought exercise was specifically designed for torture!
So I am starting a fitness challenge for myself. We are headed to Orlando next month, and I want to build up my stamina between now and then. I have already noticed that it is getting better since last week. Going up hills no longer has me gasping for breath. My thighs are getting to the point where they are not rubbing together(and with all the walking we will be doing in Florida, that is a very good thing).
So I have decided that I am going to do a Pokémon GO Fitness challenge between now and the time we go. For one thing, I am watching my intake and making sure I am balancing it with the proper amount of exercise. I am also making sure I am drinking enough water and eating healthier snacks.
