It is hard to believe that my Golden Retriever is already 12 1/2 years old. It seems like she has been a part of our family forever! And it is really hard to see that she is starting to slow down.
As you can see, she has the typical Golden Retriever “old lady face”. Some people talk about it as “Old Gold”. She is a treasure to us, so it is really important that we take great care of her.
Our girl loves to run and play with her ball. And run and play with my kids. And she loves to play with the neighbor kids. And she has tons of “friends” she talks to when we go out on our walks. Because, after all, she just does not get enough love and attention when she is at home.
<That was sarcasm, just in case anyone is wondering>
One of the hardest things about owning a pet is to watch them get older. And to see them slow down. I have to say that while Leia is pretty active, she is starting to spend more time snoozing than playing.
It is hard sometimes to see that, especially when you know that she used to be able to go for hours.
So when I found out that Purina ProPlan has a new dog food out that is specially formulated for dogs 7+, I knew it was something Leia and I had to check out. So when hopped in the SUV(well, more like I help haul her booty into the back of the SUV) and headed to PetSmart to check out the Purina ProPlan Bright Minds Formula.
See, she is pretty excited about it. PLUS, she got to go and get attention from everyone at the store. It seems like everyone loves Leia!
So once we headed back home, I took some time to check out about all the benefits of Purina ProPlan Bright Mind.
Did you know that, according to Purina, Purina ProPlan Bright Mind contains enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days? I can’t wait to share with you how that is going.
Making The Switch To Purina ProPlan Bright Mind:
But, since Leia is an older dog, it is a bit of a process of switching her over to the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind. With any new food, the switch should be done gradually over a one to two week period. Here is how we accomplished it:
- First we added a little bit of the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind to Leia’s bowl.
- I then added her regular food on top.
- I then let her enjoy her dinner as usual.
I gradually increased the amount of her new food into the bowl. By doing this, you can avoid many of the stomach issues an older dog can have when transitioning to a new food. She is now happily eating the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind without a hitch.
So, I will be updating you really soon about how she is doing on the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind. I will say, I do like the results so far, and I know that she does too!
Your dog is so sweet. I love that she got a makeover.

It is so hard to watch our precious animals age and slow down! They just grow up too fast :). I’m glad you found a product to help your dog transition into this phase of life.
I’ve also been wanting to thank you for recommending the foodie pro theme to me in my Facebook post, Jennifer. I made the change and am loving it so far!
I bet Leia loved her trip to PetSmart! That reminds me that I should take our two dogs on a field trip there soon. Thanks for sharing the info about Bright Mind! #client
