As many of my regular readers know, my family and I are in the process of finding a college for our oldest son. It is certainly an exciting time, but extremely stressful. Thankfully, during a recent trip back to Juniata College, staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Huntingdon Raystown Lake was one part of the process that was the least stressful.
We stayed for just one night, but it really was enough to give us a true sense of the hotel. From the minute you walked into the door and saw the warm and cozy fireplace, you just know you made a good decision.
I originally found the Fairfield Inn and Suites Huntingdon Raystown Lake through AAA. My FIL gifted my husband and myself memberships this past holiday season. We are planning a long road trip during the Summer and he wanted us to have it, and I am so glad he did. Because we prepaid our room, we got a discounted rate AND check-in only took a few minutes.
The Fairfield Inn and Suites Huntingdon Raystown Lake:
Speaking of check-ins, I have to say that the front desk staff was amazing, pleasant, and efficient. They really seemed to enjoy being there, and no question seemed trivial or stupid to them. And it goes beyond just check-in, and I will discuss that more below.
In any case, once we were checked in, it was a very short walk to our room. We were right on the first floor, near the kitchen area. It was great not to have to go far to our room, but that location did have it’s downside: it was very noisy in the early morning when the staff were preparing breakfast. It woke me(an already light sleeper when we are away from home) with loud talking from the staff at a really early hour. Next time I would ask for a room farther away.
But there was also a major upside to this location:
Yup, the coffee bar was right around the corner. Score!
Once we got into our room, I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. I loved that there was plenty of space in between the two beds.
There was only 3 of us for this trip, so space was adequate. The only thing I could say that was not adequate was the drawer space. There is only one dresser, so if you have a larger family it may be difficult to find space. There is a nice closet in the room with an iron and ironing board. And I loved that the closet had a luggage stand.
A quick note about the beds. I have to admit that these were probably the most comfortable we have slept on while staying away from home. Very important when you plan on doing a lot of traveling over the Summer.
I don’t have a picture of it, but there was a really nice desk that had a wired internet connection. Since we were only there for one evening, we did not want to pay extra to have the wired internet. Unfortunately, the wireless internet was not working, either. I have to say, the staff at the front desk was really good about trying to troubleshoot the problem, even being on the phone with tech support as well. While it never was resolved during our short stay, I am sure that it would have been a great perk to be able to do some blogging while being away from home.
My husband and I both remarked that the bathroom at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Huntingdon Raystown Lake had a really nice bathroom. The thing that stuck most to us was the size of the counter space. Plenty of room to store your toiletries and get ready for the day.
And, most importantly, there were plenty of clean towels available for our family. And the correct number. The only thing the bathroom needed to make it absolutely perfect was a fan.
One of the best benefits of staying at the hotel was the complimentary breakfast. I admit that I am not much of a breakfast eater. The breakfast buffet consisted of scrambled eggs and sausage, oatmeal with all the fixings, even a waffle bar. There was fresh fruit, too. To me, it was just the right amount and it tasted great, too. It was nice to fuel up before we headed to our day at Juniata College.
Other benefits to this hotel:
- Located right next to a gas station and seconds away from a Walmart.
- A pool.
- Adequate and well-lit parking lot.
- A business center.
- Small convenience area in the lobby to satisfy your hunger.
My son is very interested in attending Juniata College, and if he does go there, I know that this will be our hotel of choice when we are visiting in the future. It is really nice to know that we will be able to have a home away from home.
