Recently our family went on our vacation in Wisconsin. We went last year, and really had a wonderful time. Friends of ours live out near the Madison area, so it was wonderful to spend time with our friends and visit a new state. From where we live in PA, it is a 15 hour drive. Thankfully we have friends in Ohio where we stopped to visit for a weekend. It broke up the long stretch. We also made a pit stop in Chicago for some authentic deep dish pizza at Gino’s East.
We stayed in Wisconsin/Ohio for a total of 10 days. It really was a great family time, and I enjoyed being with my family for an extended amount of time. We have been so busy lately with work, baseball, and taking care of the house. It was also nice to see Big Daddy J relax for a change, although he did do quite a bit of driving.
So, during our stay, I learned a few new things. What you ask? Well here are some of them:
- People in Wisconsin are really friendly. Seriously, we were at several different places, and we obviously stuck out as not belonging. But you know what? People were polite and very eager to help you out. For instance, we were at a semi-pro football game that our friend is a part of. Normally, football games are filled with testosterone-filled men that look for every chance to heckle another team. But it was very different here. Some guys that were next to us starting talking with my husband, and they were generally interested in the fact that we are from the Philadelphia area. They were ready to offer suggestions on places to visit, and things to do. Big Daddy J and I both remarked about how different it was here then at home.
- Wisconsin cheese curds are the bomb. Okay, I don’t normally talk like this, but there is no other way to describe this wonderful food. We were first introduced to them at a restaurant in The Mall Of America(more information on that in a future blog post). What are they? They are like mozzarella sticks, but in a bite-sized form. For instance,

- E-Z Pass is so worth the $35 to purchase. Last year, we did not have the E-Z Pass when we went on our trip. I tend to doze in the car, so hubby was waking me up every few miles to get money out for tolls. That made for a very grumpy Mom, which on a long car ride is not a good thing. This year, we were able to zip through the tolls with little delay and I got to snooze as long as I wanted. We could also check our balance online, and verify that the tolls were paid. In some states, you had a toll discount when you used the E-Z Pass. Total bonus!
- Having a car with a USB port is a total bonus for a music lover. We took the Equinox on the road trip because we always come back with more than we go with. Last year, hubby burned about 5 MP3 discs to take with us. Guess who had to change them? This year, we able to plug-in the I-Pod, and we were good to go. We had several playlists to choose from, with well over 800 songs on each playlist. We never heard the same song twice, and there was something for everyone!
So these are just some of the highlights from our trip this year. Wisconsin is really a family friendly place to visit, and worth the long drive. While we probably won’t get out there next year, we fully enjoyed this visit to the maximum. Stay tuned for more posts regarding our recent road trip.
