My husband’s favorite day of the year is today, even more than our anniversary, I think. It is the first day of trout season. Fishing is the one thing that hubby does for himself. You know, get up at 4am(I am still in bed as this posts, as I wrote it the night before), pick up the guys, and head for breakfast. You know, since breakfast is the most important part of the day!
Once they are all done with breakfast, then they drive out to their special “first day of fishing” fishing hole, and then the waiting begins. You can’t cast in your line till 8am, so they have to sit and wait for about 3 hours. In the cold, and probably in the rain, too. I am kind of glad that I am usually home in my warm bed right with flannel sheets and several blankets. It’s shame hubby doesn’t drink coffee, because he could probably use it while sitting out in the cold. While they wait, it’s time to discuss how long it’s going to take to catch the state limit of 5, will there be more brown trout than rainbow trout, or which dumb drunk will fall in the water. Ah yes, what stimulating conversation. What warms my heart the most is that it’s a great chance for John to spend time with his grandfather. The two them do this every year, and have been for the past 28 years. What a great testimony to spending time with all members of your family.
So here’s to catching the limit, not falling in, and getting the big one!
Oh yeah, did I mention that hubby guts his own fish? You would be amazed at some of the things you find in a fish. At the end of the season, they pool all of their fish together and have a fish fry. What great times. And, in case I haven’t said it, my husband looks incredibly cute and sexy in his waders.
Does your husband have a special activity that only he does?
