We recently returned from an extensive college road trip that took us down the entire East Coast. This was the longest and most intense road trip that we have embarked on. My oldest son wants to study Chemistry when he goes to college, so we spent time researching the best schools that offered Chemistry majors. The University of Maryland was recommended to us by school counselors and internet searches.
While I am still in denial that my son is old enough to be in college, we want to make sure that he goes to the best school that offers his major. The visit was extremely helpful in finding out what a college can offer your student. I was really unsure that my son would like this school because of the size. As it turns out, both of my sons enjoyed the school and could see themselves going there.
So what is the University of Maryland like? I decided that I would show you what it is like in pictures, because no words are necessary.
One of the nicest things of the tour was the beautiful visitors center that we checked in at. There was a nice presentation area, a mock dorm room, and the most darling rocking chairs. I could have sat there and read all day!
But in any case, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Maybe a few comments thrown in for good measure, too.
The University of Maryland in pictures:
One of my favorite pictures above is my Jeremy having a “conversation” with Muppets creator Jim Henson. He loved and supported the University of Maryland. And while it is just a statue, it represents so much more. Seeing it was really inspiring.
And you can’t talk about the University of Maryland without sharing a picture of the infamous turtle. Apparently this mascot was stolen once, and they made sure that it never happened again.
The University of Maryland is an almost 4 hour drive for our family, but it is worth the drive if it helps my son succeed in his goals for the grown up world. He is planning to apply in the next few weeks, and I know they would be lucky to have him as a student.
After our visit here, we headed off to North Carolina for our next college stops. Stay tuned to find out where they were.
