It is so hard to believe that another 4th of July is upon us. Makes me sad because that means half of the boys’ Summer vacation is over already. Normally I can’t wait until the kids go back to school because they have been fighting constantly.
Not this year. Why? Because my oldest son will a senior this year. A SENIOR! How in(to borrow an English expression)bloody hell did that happen?!? So this year is bittersweet with some of the holidays. I know that he will still be home with us next July, but it will be different.
Different because we will be shopping for college. Different because I will be panicking about my baby leaving the nest. Different because this Mom cannot accept that her son is all grown up and ready to take on the world. Anyone else in that same boat?
So how are we spending this 4th of July? Well, not a wild party, not a trip anywhere, and certainly no fireworks shows. We are spending the day together as a family. What do you do when you spend a holiday at home? Read on!
Well, if we would go somewhere, I would definitely want to be in Wildwood. It is my safe and happy place. But since we can’t be there, this is how we are spending the holiday at home.
Sleeping in late. Today is my husband’s last day of his vacation, and my day off, so we skipped setting the alarm, and just stayed in bed as long as we wanted.
I am going to catch up on some reading. I am WAY behind on my reading for this Summer. I did take the time to read some beachy books when we were on vacation, but they have me craving for more!
I want to do some decluttering and moving around of some furniture to better suit our needs. I just hope that I won’t find any weird things behind the furniture(you know, giant dust bunnies or worse….spiders).
Have a good meal together. We got steaks and corn on the cob, which is one of our favorite meals. I marinated the steaks last evening, and they will be ready to go when supper rolls around.
Plan out my schedule for the week. That includes starting to prepare for our road trip next month. There is a LOT to do to get ready for an extended trip.
But this Mom is not about all work and no play. I could very well see a video game tournament in today’s agenda. Well, maybe just this Momma playing Jurassic World Legos.
If you are a crafty kind of Mom, you could make this cute Patriotic Rosette Decoration. I am craft-impaired, so Sandy did all the creation on this one.
In any case, no matter how you choose to spend your holiday, remember the reason why you can. Be safe, be smart, and be together.
Oh, if you are out all day, you probably won’t feel like doing much cooking on Tuesday. This is the perfect recipe you can throw in your slow cooker for an easy dinner Tuesday night. Overnight slow cooker pulled chicken. YUM!
