Winter Fun

Snow day

Normally on a Monday, I do a post about my menu plan.  This week I just wasn’t in the menu planning mood, so I decided it will be a “fly by the seat of your pants” week with meals.  You see the reason I wasn’t in to menu planning and grocery shopping is that we went ice skating yesterday with my son’s youth group.  I haven’t been on skates since DH and I were dating.  We will be married 15 years in May, so you can figure out the math.  I was so sure that I was going to end up flat on my tush, and need several people or a crane to lift me back up if I did fall.  Well, as it turns out, I wasn’t as rusty as I first thought.  I did do a lot of wall hugging though, and there were 2 year olds skating rings around me as well.  But the main thing is, we had a great time as a family, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I thought I’d share some pictures with you.  These are some of my favorites:

Youngest after his first go round.  He looks exhausted.

DH and Oldest after their first go round.  They look so cute together!

Me and my boys.  Even though we are all on skates, my oldest is almost as tall as I am.

My 3 favorite men.

And you can’t go ice skating, and not have hot chocolate.

So this was just a peek into a Sunday afternoon in our end of the world.  It was worth the sore muscles, scratched ankles, and multiple layers of clothing to spend quality time together.

What do you do as a family during the long winter months?

We are just happy this year that there hasn’t really been much cold weather! We want to move somewhere warmer asap. This winter all of our free time has been focused on our web show. We don’t have much other free time, since we’re down to one car, we’re pretty much stuck at home most days. The kids enjoy playing out in the “forest” (across the road, our landlords have acres and acres of untouched land where they go and play and build forts and whatnot)

Definitely agree about the cold weather. Unfortunately, there still is a lot of winter left to go!

We got a new Ice Rink last year and my son is there several times a week. I used to take lessons as a child. I haven’t been on them in over 20 some years. It sounds like you had fun.

I haven’t been ice skating in ages (last winter I was pregnant and now I have a 7 month old). I love it! I’m the stay close to the edge kind of skater, but it is still fun. This winter we have been staying pretty close to home and enjoying some movies and comfort food.

    I love the new look!

We had kind of a lazy afternoon yesterday and then Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in the evening. That made up for the lazy part!

I have only watched ice skaters. There was one at a mall in Charlotte (about 30 minutes from the college I went to). I would love to ice skate, but I can’t roller skate, plus I’m clumsy! I bow to you queen of ice skating!

I haven’t been ice skating in many years either. Don’t think that will be happening. Appreciating the time with your children is a wise move, you can always do the menu another time. Your children grow up so fast, like in an instant they are on their own. I look at my son, at 42 years old and say, “Where did my little boy go to? I miss him!” He laughs at me, but I have my memories of those fun times and things we used to do together.

It is amazing how those things come back to you. This year, I roller skated for the first time in 15 years. I thought I was going to be painting the floor but I took to it right away. My daughter and I have been skating alot this winter.

This looks like a blast. I have went skating once but we have yet to take Trey. We don’t have a rink close to us so we will have to plan a trip next winter. Love the new blog design. Blessings!
